Within dentistry x-rays are routinely taken every 2 years to minimise exposure to radiation. Radiation in the uk is measured in miliSievert or (msv).


Many patients are often concerned about the exposure to radiation, we have gathered statistics from experts to compare everyday radiation to dental radiation!


  • Eating a banana - 0.1 Msv

  • Single tooth x-ray - 0.2 msv

  • Day trip to Grand Canyon- 1.2 msv

  • Full mouth x-rays- 3.9 msv

  • Flight from LA to NYC - 40msv

  • 1 year living in a brick building - 70 msv

  • Yearly dose from food- 400 msv
