Pupdate 4: The Latest Adventures of Douglas

In Pupdate 3, we learnt that Douglas had been to the vet, and had a bit of a set back as he had some issues with his joints.

We'd love to say that everything is back to normal, but Caroline, Douglas' puppy raiser, tells us that he still hasn't been his usual self, hes less playful and less motivated. Training has paused for the moment

Caroline & Douglas have been given lots of support from Lucy (Douglas' Puppy Development Advisor) and the medical team at Guide Dogs there's been lots of tests and scans to try and figure out what's making Douglas feel unwell, but the mystery continues!

There's been different types of medication trialled, and he does seem to have perked up - Caroline tells us that he's startd pinching tea towels again so this is a great sign!

Even though Douglas has been visiting the vets lots, he's started anticipating when they're going to touch him and developed some general body sensitivity. We're trying to stop this escalating by working with different people handling Douglas. We like to do the "bucket game" where Douglas will look at the bucket full of kibble whilst Caroline is grooming him, and this is a good sign to continue - once he looks away all grooming stops. Douglas seems to be a little unsure of unfarmiliar vets.

Whilst Douglas' training has paused, he's still gone on some adventures and visited different places to keep him stimulated. One of his favourite places to visit is a local horse rescue centre - he loves watching the horses & they love watching him too - Who can blame them?!

Caroline continues to be proud of Douglas and how far he's come, and she loves having sponsors like CTL to keep rooting for him, as it's lifted both their spirits.

We're all crossing our fingers that Douglas is back to his full regime of training soon! The next Pupdate will be with us in June...
